REC New Users' Guide

FES Site Basics
Your first step in becoming a full REC member is familiarizing yourself with the different sections of the FES website. If it wasn't already made clear to you, the Remnant Corps is a division of a larger gaming organization, the Force Elite Soldiers. The FES doesn't exist to make money or anything like that - It exists to provide its divisions with what they need to be an active, competitive, and fun environment in which to play.

Forums
First off: The forums. The forums are one of the best resources we have at our disposal. The REC has its own section of the FES forums. In that section we have several seperate sub forums for various purposes. The important ones are as follows:
- Training Sprawl (You are here) - This forum is where new members can find resources like this document, and where they can ask questions regarding any aspect of the REC or FES.
- Remnant Forward Outpost - This forum is our division's general purpose forum. Public announcements or discussions take place here.
- Strategic Remnant Bunker - This forum is our division's private forum. Only members of our division can see this board. Strategies, passwords, and other private discussion take place here.

There are also some forums for all of FES that you might want to look into:
- News Headlines & Reports - Any FES-wide news or reports will be posted here.
- The Sliced Tauntaun Grill & Bar - This is the general off-topic chat for the entirety of FES.

Main/Members Site
This is the home base for members of the FES. Just as in the forums, each division has its own "stuff" on the main site. Aside from the news, calendar, and spotlights on the main page, there are also some important things our members need access to:
- REC Roster - This is our current roster. It shows the entire hierarchical breakdown of our structure. If you do a little clicking around you should be able to find your squad listing.
- Profile - This is where you can edit your profile. This information is visible by both members and visitors on the site, so put useful information in there! This is also where you will upload your avatar once you've created it. There is a section below about avatars.r

Division Site
On our division site are a bunch of ways to view some of the information above, but it isn't all perfectly implemented. There is a nice roster and a portal to our forums, but they have a few bugs. This site is primarily a "face" for the division on the web, which is vital for recruitment.

Keeping In Touch
As with any clan, communication is absolutely vital. Aside from the tools provided by the FES sites, we use two major forms of communication:

Steam
If you're playing TF2 you're probably already quite familiar with Steam. As a clan we take advantage of the calendar and friends systems provided by Steam. If you haven't already been invited to the REC Steam group, let an officer know and we'll get you added.

Useful steam links:
- REC Steam Group - This is useful for viewing group announcements, events and members.
- Join Chat! - In case you missed the link on the above page, this will take you directly to our Steam chatroom. The steam chatroom is our primary and most important means of communication. If you are logged onto steam, please idle in this chatroom. The more people who hang out there, the easier it is to organize impromptu events.

Also, it is relatively easy to join the chat from within steam itself. Just scroll to the bottom of your fiends list and find the "Remnant Corps" group. Click on the arrow after the title and select "Join group chat room" from the menu that pops up.

Ventrilo
Ventrilo is the program we use for voice chat. While the source engine's built in voice chat is relatively good, Ventrilo is invaluable for competition and also allows members to be in contact even if they aren't in the same server or if they are having technical difficulties.

Here are the steps to getting Ventrilo set up:
- Download Ventrilo from the Ventrilo site
- Install the program and run it.
- Click the arrow button (->) to the right of "User Name" and click the "New" button. Enter a username and optionally enter a phonetic spelling for your name. Click OK.

- Click the arrow button (->) to the right of "Server" and click the "New" button. Enter vent58.light-speed.com in the "Hostname or IP" field. Enter 5004 in the "Port Number" field. Click OK.

- Click settings, and set a push to talk key. Make sure "Use Push To Talk Hotkey" is checked, otherwise we'll yell at you. You may also need to tweak your inbound and outbound audio levels and your input device, but these SHOULD work as is for at least getting connected. We can help you from there.

In Closing...
If anyone has any questions, whether you need MAJOR help, or you're just curious about something, please don't hesitate to contact me at remnant.corps@gmail.com.

Also, I expect to add more to this, but for now this will do.
